This winter I have found myself doing a lot more skiing than I have in many years. Before I had kids I could get a decent ski workout in an hour - 15 minutes getting ready and 45 minutes skiing. With little kids its more like the reverse. Spend 45 minutes getting ready and ski for 15 minutes (or less sometimes). What changed this year is my 9 y.o. wanted to learn how to skate ski.
I have been watching the progress on the Lexington Ave bike bridge that spans the railroad tracks/Energy Park Drive. I was hoping they would finish the project before winter. Last night I was excited to take the bridge for the first time. It is nice to see the city providing safe transportation options for those of us trying to get around without using a car.
Now that school has started my Surly Big Dummy has become my main bike again. After I drop my kids off at school I can head straight to work and make it by 10:00am. My older son rides his own bike to school but my younger son is still riding on the big dummy - or behind the big dummy haha. I put a lot of effort into making sure my kids enjoy getting to school by bike.
One of our younger customers was in the shop recently. He was 4 years old and was already riding without training wheels. He was so excited to get his bike back right away. When I was done fixing his bike this was the conversation we had:
4 y.o.: "I want to work in a bike shop when I grow up."
me: "Maybe you could work here when you get older"
4 y.o.: "umm I think you will be dead by then"
We are helping support the MS Society's ride across MN. I think we have been supporting this ride for 20 years. If you would like us to transport your bicycle to the start we have a few spots left in our trailer. Give us a call if you would like to reserve a spot (651-489-4513). See you on the road.
Last weekend I had the opportunity to work with the Now Novartis professional women's cycling team. In addition to racing their bicycles the team also raises awareness of Multiple Sclerosis through participation in MS rides throughout the country.
