Off season hours
Beginning September 1st, we will begin our transition to winter hours. For the month of September the only change will be that we will be closed on Sundays. Beginning in October, we will further reduce our hours, closing at 6pm (rather than 8pm) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Our current hours can always be found in the upper right hand corner of this website.
New Specialized Product
We recently received a large portion of our 2013 Specialized product. This will fill in some important gaps in our inventory, while also introducing a smattering of exciting, new products. One of the more enticing new bikes is the Tricross Sport Disc.
The photograph doesn't really do the color justice. It is vibrant. Combined with disc specific rims, internal cable routing, black components, and subdued graphics, I think it's one of the more well conceived bikes I've seen in a while. Functionally, it features a solid component group, intelligent gearing, appropriate rack mounting points, and easily adjusted Avid disc brakes. Definitely a good multi-use bike.
45nrth Wolvhammer
For Avid winter riders, the lack of a true "winter" cycling shoe has been an annoyance for a long, long time. Each time a new shoe would come to the market, I would excitedly buy it, only to find myself thoroughly disappointed two hours into my ride (disappointment that would quietly transform to blinding hatred by the third hour of the ride). I finally settled on a size 50 Lake winter boot. I normally wear a 45, but the additional space allowed enough room to scale my sock arrangement to the temperature and ride duration. This has proved tolerable. Anyway, all of that was simply a roundabout way of introducing you to the 45nrth Wolvhammer, a winter cycling boot that actually looks like it was designed for winter use. It is expected that they will sell out quickly, so we have preordered a good number. They should be delivered by late fall or early winter. Reserve yours now. They're going fast.
We'll be doing a shop ride on Sunday at 7am. There will be some hills, a coffee stop in Afton, and 60-70 miles of hanging out with Bryce, Tim, and Bob. Neat, right? Pace will be adjusted to suit the group, but we do need to be back by noon, so it will have to be somewhat purposeful.
This will be the first in a monthly series highlighting some of the new products around the shop. Of course, this is but a sampling, and cannot compare with the splendor of aimlessly wandering around the store.
Arkel's shtick has always been a well made, Cordura bag that can be further fortified with a very functional rain cover. For most people this works exceedingly well (some even argue that it's superior to a waterproof bag). However, we've recently started carrying one of their two waterproof offerings, the Dolphin 32. It is the same top notch quality that you'd expect from Arkel, but designed around a dry bag. This offers improved protection and decreased fiddling versus its Cordura alternatives.
Burley Piccolo
While this is not a new product to the shop, it did disappear for a while. Burley stopped making it for a couple years, and it was with great delight that we welcomed it back to the shop. The solid design makes other "trail a bike" offers look like Sunday afternoon-overzealous-dad-garage creations. That is to say, it's slick, and confidence inspiring for both parent and child. Rather than attaching sloppily via a series of shims, it bolts securely to the included rear rack.
Thule Archway
While it still features Thule's great features this one includes mechanisms for both locking the bikes to the rack, and the rack to the car. Such a rack has been a customer request for a while now, so we're excited to have a solution next time someone is looking for a lockable truck rack.
This one was not new for June, but starting in June Garmin is offering a $30 rebate with the purchase of a new Garmin 200. That makes this handy little device almost laughably affordable. It's time to start taking down some Strava segments, no? Please ask for more information about the rebate in store. There are no requirements other than: buying a Garmin 200, saving the box, and being diligent enough to send the stuff back to Garmin. We have all of the appropriate paperwork at the shop.
Well, that's all for now. Those certainly aren't the only new products, but they are a few that have roused excitement with the staff.
Due to the high probability of totally impressive thunderstorms, there won't be a Tuesday night ride tonight.
After a one week break, we'll be back tomorrow with a Tuesday night ride. Show up at 6pm and expect to ride 1.5-2 hours, depending on the group. The route will be roughly the same as the one posted below, but may be shortened to suit the speed of the group. Ride leader this week will be Bob! Hope to see you there.
This Tuesday we'll be kicking off our Tuesday night rides. We haven't done this for a while, so it will be an evolving process. We are starting simple, with a very classic river loop, ridden on road bikes. We will depart the shop around 6pm. If we get a prompt start, we may be able to extend the route and still make it back with daylight to spare. The pace will be 17-20mph. Everyone is welcome. There is a facebook event if you'd be so kind as to confirm your attendance. If not, ride anyway. It just makes it easier to plan if we have an idea of who is coming. Route can be seen below:
Over the past couple of months we've been trying to better connect with our customers electronically. To further enhance that relationship, we're going to begin offering limited-time, web-only specials on our facebook and twitter feeds. If you'd like to receive these offers, please go to our facebook page and/or twitter feed, and like/add/follow/whatever us. We will try to be responsible with our social media use, and use it to disseminate relevant information and promotions, without the mindless noise of "advertising".
We've recently received our 2012 Mavic product. Conveniently, Mavic timed this to coincide with a promotion of their MP3 crash replacement program. Normally, participating in the program involves an additional fee, calculated as a percentage of the MSRP. Until May 15th, they are offering it free with select wheels. While you may want to peruse the fine print, the gist is this: "With the MP3 'crash replacement' program your Mavic product is covered for any accident, fall, or damage for 2 years!" Other highlights from the new 2012 product:
